Appointments - April 2005

Central African Republic
• Honore Mbaye assumed the position of economic counselor on Sept. 22.

Cyprus
• Andreas Nicolaides assumed the position of second secretary/consul on Feb. 1. Nicolaides previously held positions in the Cypriot Embassy in Austria and the Cypriot Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna (2002-05), as well as the Political/Multilateral Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-02).

Denmark
• Ole Torpegaard Hansen assumed the position of counselor (World Bank) on Feb. 7.

Kenya
• Thomas B. Amolo departed the post of principal counselor on Oct. 31.
• Franklin Esipila assumed the position of deputy chief of mission on Jan. 10, having previously served as deputy permanent representative at the Kenyan Mission to the United Nations in New York (July 2003-December 2004).

Laos
• Amphayvanh Chanthavong assumed the position of third secretary on Sept. 10, replacing Bounleua Phandanouvong, who departed the post on Sept. 29. Chanthavong previously served as an official to the Department of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, Chanthavong holds a post-graduate diploma from the University of Western Sydney in Australia and a degree from the Pedagogical University of Vientiane in Laos.
• Deth Singsawatchy assumed the position of third secretary of protocol on Nov. 1. Singsawatchy previously served as a protocol assistant (2001-04), studying international relations training from 1999 to 2000, as well as attending Dongdok University in Vientiane from 1991 to 1996.

Niger
• Hadjio Abdoulhoumine assumed the position of counselor in January.
• Joseph Diatta departed as ambassador on Feb. 28.

Peru
• Jorge Felix Rubio assumed the position of minister, deputy chief of mission on March 1, replacing Nestor Popolizio, who departed the post on Feb. 12. Rubio previously served as minister at the Embassy of Peru in Argentina (2002-05).

Poland
• Marek Purowski assumed the position of press counselor in October 2004, replacing Artur Michalski.

Swaziland
• Prince Gcina Dlamini assumed the position of education attaché, replacing Boy Mdlulli.
• Phindile Nxumalo assumed the position of third secretary, replacing Robinson Mkhaliphi.
• Florence Shabangu-Hlophe assumed the position of administrative attaché, replacing Thandie Shongwe.

Turkey
• Burak Akcapar assumed the position of first counselor in December, having previously served as head of the Strategic Planning Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-04).

Uzbekistan
• Sherzod Abdullaev assumed the position of counselor on Jan. 30, having previously served as an advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
