Barbados
His Excellency Michael Ian King
Michael Ian King arrived in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 1, 2000 to assume duties as ambassador to the United States and permanent representative to the Organization of American States (OAS).

Most recently, he served in Brussels for five years as ambassador to the European Union, the Benelux countries, France, Germany and Austria. He was also non-resident ambassador/permanent representative to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in Geneva, as well as the permanent delegate to UNESCO in Paris. He has also served on secondment as executive director of the Caribbean Conservation Association in Barbados and director of the OAS National Office in the Bahamas.

Ambassador King has been a member of the Barbados Foreign Service for 23 years. He was educated at Harrison College in Barbados, the City University of New York and the University of Oxford.

Ambassador King is married to the former Jacqueline Crick of St. Vincent and has two sons.
